RETIREES CORNER
September 2004
Tom (Electronics) and Joan Lincicome (Telecommunications 1990) recently took the Copper Canyon trip in Mexico. It is much larger than our Grand Canyon. They spent two nights at a hotel on the rim of the canyon, a beautiful view, especially early in the morning. They celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary at a lovely restaurant in the middle of an apple orchard in Mexico. A very interesting trip.

Vince Tobia (Electronic Tech. Gardener, Facilities Coord. and Environmental Tech., 1990) and his wife Connie have been in the beautiful state of Georgia (June 04) visiting areas around Macon, FDR's Little White House in Warm Springs, President Jimmy Carter's (80 this year) boyhood school in Plains. He stills lives there in the home he and Rosalynn had built in the 1960s and they are both still active in their church and community, Habitat for Humanity International, writing books and his Presidential Library in Atlanta. They visited his impressive and intimate Library featuring pictures and histories of all the Presidents past and present. Vince recommends Carter's book , "The Virtues of Aging", (lots of good, even inspiring advice for us retirees).

They visited the home where Margaret Mitchell wrote Gone With The Wind, the State Capitol, Antebellum homes, the Botanical Gardens featuring the Chihuly Glass Exhibit and Stone Mountain, the largest Granite outcropping in the world. Their next stop will be the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina.

Bill (Engineering, 1989) and Sue (Engineering, 1983) Simecka moved from Las Vegas to Henderson (the east side part of Las Vegas) four years ago. They bought a house in Sun City Anthem and love it! It's age restricted (55+), has a beautiful recreation center and offers many activities including two pools, exercise room, restaurant, and many, many clubs. Bill turned 75 this year, and Sue turned 63!

Sue was a contestant in the Ms. Senior Nevada Pageant in Reno this year. She did not win, but had quite an experience! In August they took all of their children and grandchildren on a four night, five day Mexican cruise. Since they married somewhat late in life, all of their kids were grown, living all over the country and pursuing their careers and, therefore had never met. They visited them (one family at a time!) and visa versa, but how do you get 19 people together at the same time? A cruise and a once-in-a-lifetime thing. Bill and Sue celebrated their 23rd wedding anniversary this August.

Their next destination (just the two of them) is a cruise to Alaska. They love the convenience and pampering of cruises and do about two a year.
