Lou and Joan Gigliati (Engineering 2003) recently returned after a five week cross-country road trip with stops in Florida, Georgia and the Texas Gulf coast. On the way East, they drove along the Mississippi coast and found that Katrina repairs are well underway but there is still a lot to be done. Visiting family and friends in Florida took up most of the time with some time spent fishing as well. They're next off to Puerto Penasco, Mexico for three more weeks of sun, fun and fishing. Tom Barlow has been elected to the Presidency of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). His one-year term will begin in June 2008. The ASME has some 127,000 members, including the United States and other countries worldwide. Tom and Sandy retired from the Laboratory in 1997 and currently live in Lincoln, CA. FUTURE RETIREE FUNCTIONS Retiree functions include a monthly luncheon meeting on the third Wednesday of each month except June and December. The luncheons are held at the Elk's Lodge in Livermore, 940 Larkspur Drive, across from the Springtown Golf Club. Doors open at about 11:30. Food will be served at noon. The price is $10 per person, payable at the door. The next retiree luncheon meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2008. YOU MUST SIGN UP by Friday, April 11. Our speaker is Dr. John Ziagos of LLNL who will talk on Global and US Energy. How much energy do we have? How fast are we using it? Will we run out? What about the environmental consequences? What role is LLNL playing in all this? John will answer these questions including the future use of the nuclear energy, which is currently an important energy source in Europe and Japan. On Wednesday, June 18, we will hold our annual Retiree Summer Picnic from 11 AM to 2:30 PM at the Ravenswood Historical Site, 2647 Arroyo Road in Livermore. The cost will also be $10 per person. More information will be available later on our web site. All Retiree functions are open to LLNL Retiree Organization members and their guests. Mark your calendars now. Please send any news or input (please include the date and department from which you retired) to Jane or Gus Olson. E-Mail: Jane@LLNLRetirees.org or Gus@LLNLRetirees.org. |
