Retirees’ Corner
May 2008

Chuck Cole appeared in a production of "The Boxcar Children" at Amador Theater in Pleasanton in April. It was a one hour show that takes place in the 1930's about four orphaned children who have run away from authorities because they don't want to be separated and placed in foster care or an orphanage. They happen across an old abandoned boxcar and make it their home. His character was Officer Banning, the local policeman.

Chuck and Pat are planning an extended trip this summer in their 5th wheel, traveling to the East coast. They will visit sights along the way and make their way to New England for the fall leaves. They plan on spending The Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays with their son and his family in Washington DC. and plan to return to California in February.

The Retirees’ Chemistry Group, also known as the ACS (Aging Chemists Society) had a group of about 50 for their annual no-host luncheon in February at the Willow Tree Restaurant in Dublin.  If any Chemistry retirees are interested in joining the group at future events, please contact Bob and Anna Lim or Dick Ryon, e-mail: ACS@LLNLretirees.org.

The May Retiree luncheon will be held at the Elks Lodge in Livermore at noon on May 21st. The speaker is Dr. Roger Werne, former Associate Director for Engineering and now senior advisor, LLNL Industrial Partnership Office. The IPO's mission is to enhance U.S. economic competitiveness, promote economic development, and improve the quality of life for all Americans through transfer of LLNL-developed technology to industry. The Laboratory is preeminent in industrial partnering in biotechnology, communications, transportation, homeland security, and many other areas, but much of it goes unrecognized by the public. Don't miss hearing the latest on the remarkable accomplishments of the scientists and engineers at LLNL.

OUR NEXT EVENT: On Wednesday, June 18, we will hold our annual Retiree Summer Picnic from 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM at the Ravenswood Historical Site, 2647 Arroyo Road in Livermore.  The cost will be $10 per person.  More information will be available later on our web site. All Retiree functions are open to LLNL Retiree Organization members and their guests.

The next LLNL Retirees Travel Group meets on Tuesday, May 27, at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Room at the Livermore Library, right next door to the Police Station. The May program is entitled: Cities and Mountains of Switzerland by Margo and Arne Kirkewoog.
