Retirees’ Corner
August 2008

Since returning from Mazatlan, where they spend the winter, Dick (2000, Z Division and NAI) and Pat Eddy have been touring various wine areas in California.  So far, they have visited the Sierra foothills, Sonoma, Anderson Valley, Salina Valley, and, of course, Livermore Valley.  In August, they have a trip planned to the Washington and Oregon wine country.

Gus (Electronics Engineering, 1993) and Jane (Mechanical Engineering, 1993) Olson have been busy this past month. They spent one night in Eldorado Hills attending a 90th birthday party for Effie Hurley, widow of the late Jim Hurley (Weapons, 199?). Jane has joined a Red Hat Chapter and enjoyed a bus trip/tour to San Francisco focus on the criminal history of the city. Gus drove Henri Fankhouser, widow of Chet Fankhouser, to Kaiser Martinez for her cataract surgery. The following week, they had three out-of- town visitors, including Effie Hurley. The three ladies went shopping in Walnut Creek one day while Gus took friend Gar Hendren on an extended tour of Livermore. Gar, who had been in the Navy during WWII and stationed at the Livermore Naval Air Station, really enjoyed seeing the old sites and how Livermore has grown. The last night, all five went to dinner at Wente’s restaurant and enjoyed a delicious dinner on the patio listening to the band, which included Effie’s son.
