1st  Issue, October 2008 Land Cruise News

Hello everyone:

This is the first issue of our "Land Cruise News".  An explanation follows:

I have never had the opportunity to see much of the US and have always dreamed of taking a long RV trip.  Since Chuck has done a lot of RVing in his life, I figured he wouldn't want to do much more than maybe rent an RV to see the interior of Alaska.  He agreed that an RV trip to the interior of Alaska would be nice.  As I was planning the trip for this coming May, I found that renting an RV can be very expensive.  Chuck suggested that we might want to consider buying a truck and camper and not bother with the rental.  I was surprised but pleased with his suggestion since I was getting tired of the rain in Sitka.  In October, we made the decision to buy a truck and camper.  We spent many days on the internet looking for the perfect truck.  Chuck knew exactly what he wanted but was having a hard time finding it.  Lots of trucks for sale but none were Dodge, diesel, manual, with dual wheels, etc.  He finally found one and made a rush trip to Davis, CA in early October for a few days to check it out.  We ended up buying it and he left it at his son's house in nothern California and returned to Sitka.  Now, we had to get smart on campers.  So we went looking on the internet, talked with friends who own campers, read articles about campers, etc.  You get the idea.  We ended up making a refundable deposit on a Northern Lite 10-2 camper that was located in Prineville, Oregon.  So, the plan was to fly to California, pick up the truck and drive it to Prineville, Oregon to hopefully buy the camper and then go RVing for a few months.  This is where it began.....
